Climate Justice Collective

The Climate Justice Collective formed out of the series of meetings following the the decision that the Camp for Climate Action would not organise in 2011. So far, people from Oxford, Bristol, London, Brighton, Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool and Wales have got together to discuss how we can function as a national network to help support climate justice activism in the UK, and this is what we’re up to!

Fuel Poverty Action

Fuel Poverty Action are a campaign group of the Climate Justice Collective. Whilst the UK’s Big Six energy companies collude with the government for profit, and we see cuts to the winter fuel allowance, a quarter of UK households are in fuel poverty, meaning a choice between heating and eating for many. Fuel Poverty Action will be challenging the fossil fuel driven corporate-controlled energy system, which, as well as being at the heart of the climate crisis, is causing rocketing energy bills that people cannot afford to pay.

We’ve already seen a die-in at EDF HQ in London, and will be heating things up with a national weekend of ‘Winter Warm-ups’ in January.

National Weekend of Winter Warm-Ups

We’ll be organising with our local communities for a weekend of decentralised action on Friday 27th-Monday 30th January. We already have confirmed ‘warm-ups’ in Oxford, Leeds and London, with many more expected. See the call-out and get organising in your local area! Check and follow @FuelPovAction on Twitter to find out where people will be warming-up near you.

Mass Action: The Big-Six Energy Monopoly

Currently, 6 energy companies have almost total control over our energy. In May, we will be coming together on mass to challenge their monopoly and strengthen the climate justice movement in the UK. Now is the time to take action against the privatised fossil-fuel energy system that is excluding our voices, leaving us to freeze and wrecking the climate. Now is the time for energy democracy, sourced from genuine renewables and produced to meet our needs, not for corporate greed.

The target, plan and date of the action are still to be decided, so be at our planning meeting in Oxford on Saturday 18th February to be a part of plotting something really exciting.
